Intermediate Hook No. 6 Handbag Cases

Set of four crocheted handbag cases for compact, lipstick, eyeglasses, and comb, trimmed with felt suit shapes and beads. Uses Knit-Cro-Sheen Metallic in Mid Rose. Originally published in Quick to Make Gifts.

Pattern instructions

Round Compact Case

1st rnd

ROUND COMPACT CASE... Starting at center, ch 2. 1st rnd: 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook.

2nd rnd

2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc around.

3rd rnd

3rd rnd: * 2 sc in next sc (1 sc increased), sc in next sc. Repeat from * around.

4th rnd

4th rnd: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc. Repeat from * around.

Increase rnds

Inc 7 sc evenly on each rnd until piece measures 4 inches in diameter, or covers compact case.

Last rnd

Last rnd: Sc in each sc around. Join with sl st and break off. Make another piece the same way.

Trim and finish

Cut a heart and diamond of red felt, club and spade of black felt. Trim one piece as illustrated. With wrong sides facing, attach thread to front and, working through both thicknesses, sc closely around to within 4 inches of first sc made. Sc closely around opening. Join and break off.

Lipstick Case

1st rnd

LIPSTICK CASE... Starting at center, ch 2. 1st rnd: 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook.

2nd rnd

2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc around.

3rd rnd

3rd rnd: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around.

Even rnds

Now sc in each sc around until piece measures 2 inches, or same length as lipstick case.

Last rnd

Last rnd: Ch 1, turn and sc in each sc around. Break off.

Ridged bottom

Attach thread to any sc of 3rd rnd and sc in each sc between 3rd and 4th rnds to form ridged bottom. Join and break off. Trim as for Round Compact Case.

Eyeglass Case

1st row

EYEGLASS CASE... Starting at bottom, ch 23. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.

2nd row

2nd row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

Repeat 2nd row

Repeat 2nd row until piece measures 5½ inches in all.

Next row

Next row: Skip first sc, sc in next sc and in each sc across to within last 2 sc, skip next sc, sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn.

Repeat last row

Repeat last row 2 times more. Break off. Make another piece the same way.

Trim and finish

Trim as for Round Compact Case. With wrong sides facing, attach thread to front, 4th row from top, and, working through both thicknesses, sc closely around long side and bottom to corresponding row on opposite side. Sc closely around opening. Break off.

Comb Case

1st rnd

COMB CASE... Starting at center, ch 31. 1st rnd: 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, 3 sc in last ch; working along opposite side of starting chain, make sc in each ch across. Join with sl st to first sc.

2nd rnd

2nd rnd: Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, sc in each sc around, increasing 3 sc evenly on each end. Join.

Repeat 2nd rnd

Repeat 2nd rnd until 7 rnds have been completed, or piece covers comb. Break off. Make another piece the same way. Trim and finish as for Eyeglass Case.
