Starting

WHEEL ... Starting at center, ch 8, join with sl st.

1st rnd

Ist rnd: Ch 4 (to count as dc and ch-1), * dc in ring, ch 1. Repeat from * 10 more times, join (12 sps).

2nd rnd

2nd rnd: Sl st in sp, ch 5 (to count as dtr); 2 dtr in sp, holding back the last loop of each st on hook; * thread over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 1 tightly (cluster); ch 5, 3 dtr in next sp, holding back the last loop of each st on hook. Repeat from *, ending with ch 5, join.

3rd rnd

3rd rnd: Ch 1, 2 sc in next loop, ch 16, sc in 2nd ch from hook; * under chain make half dc, 2 dc, 11 tr, 2 dc, half dc, sc (spoke); 2 sc in ch-5 loop, sc at tip of cluster, 2 sc in next loop. Ch 15, drop loop from hook, insert hook in 11th st made on previous spoke and draw loop through, sc under ch-16. Repeat from * to 11th st incl. on ch-16 of 12th spoke; drop loop from hook, insert it at tip of Ist (unconnected) spoke and draw loop through; complete spoke. Complete rnd, join and fasten off.

Wheel assembly

Make 23 more wheels. Place wheels in a strip, and pin 2 spokes of each to corresponding spokes of adjacent wheels. Sew together neatly at pin-marks, on wrong side. Attach thread to center free st of spoke to right of joining; ch 7, 2 tr tr at base of ch-7, retaining last loop of each st on hook; thread over and draw through all loops on hook; make 3 dtr in center st of next spoke, retaining last loop of each st on hook; thread over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 1 tightly. Fasten off, leaving a 6-inch thread for sewing. Work clusters thus at each free section next to joinings. Make 1 cluster at end wheel of each strip.
