Starting at center, ch 8. Join with sl st to form ring.

Ch 3 (to count as dc), 5 dc in ring, drop loop from hook, insert hook in 3rd st of 1st ch-3 made, draw loop through (1 pc st made); ch 5, 6 dc in ring, drop loop from hook, insert hook in 1st of 6 dc and draw loop through (another pc st made). Ch 5, another pc st in ring, ch 5, another pc st, ch 5, join with sl st in 1st pc st made (at back).

Ch 3 (to count as 1st dc of pc st), make pc st in same place as sl st, * ch 2, dc in 3rd st of ch-5, ch 5, pc st in same place, ch 2, pc st over next pc st. Repeat from * around, ending with ch-1. Join with sl st.

Ch 3, pc st in same place, * ch 2, dc in dc, ch 2, dc in 3rd st of ch-5, ch 5, pc st in same place, ch 2, pc st over next pc st as before, ch 2, pc st over next pc st. Repeat from * around, ending with pc st, ch 1. Join.

Pc st over pc st, ch 2, dc in next dc, ch 2, dc in next dc, ch 2, dc in 3rd st of ch-5, ch 5, pc st in same place, * ch 2, pc st over next pc st. Repeat from * twice. Then repeat from around, ending with ch 1, join.

Work as for 4th rnd, increasing 1 pc st and 1 sp in each section on each rnd (7 pc sts on 7th rnd).

Ch 3, dc in each of next 3 dc (1 bl made), * ch 2, skip 2 dc, dc in each of next 10 dc (3 bls made), ch 2, skip 2 dc, dc in each of last 4 dc, ch 2, dc in 3rd st of ch-5 at corner, ch 5, dc in same place, ch 2; pc st in each of next 6 pc sts, with ch-2 between; ch 2, dc over next pc st, ch 2, dc over each of next 4 dc. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 2, join.

* 3 bls, 1 sp, 3 bls, 2 sps, ch 5, dc in same place, 2 sps, 5 pc sts with ch-2 between, 3 sps. Repeat from * around, ending with ch-2. Join.

* 2 bls, 1 sp, 1 bl, 1 sp, 2 bls, 3 sps, ch 5, dc in same place, 3 more sps, 4 pc sts with ch-2 between, ch 2, dc over next pc st, 3 sps. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 2, join.

* 7 bls (22 dc), 6 sps, ch 5, dc in same place as last dc, 6 sps, pc st over next pc st, ch 2, dc over next pc st, 6 sps. Repeat from * around, ending with ch-2, join. Fasten securely and break off.

Make necessary number of blocks, and sew together on wrong side with neat over-and-over stitches. Then work a row of ch-2 sps all around spread, making an extra ch-2 sp at corners.

Finish spread with a fringe all around edges, in every other sp.

Cut 8 strands, each 12 inches long. Double these strands, forming a loop. Pull loop through space and draw loose ends through loop. Pull tight. When fringe has been worked all around edges, trim evenly.
