Lace for Alb Pattern #9043
Church alb lace worked in mercerized crochet thread from pointed motifs joined in a circle, then worked in rounds from a chart. Originally published in Spool Cotton #131, Church Laces.

Pattern instructions
Point
Starting at lower edge of point, ch 6. 1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each of next 2 ch. Ch 5, turn.
Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next ch, dc in next dc (1 bl); ch 2, skip 2 dc, make a foundation dc in 3rd st of turning ch —to make a foundation dc, thread over, insert hook in st, thread over and draw loop through, thread over and draw through one loop, thus making a chain st; complete as for a dc. Make 2 more foundation dc by inserting hook in ch-1 of previous dc. Then make a dc in the usual way (1 bl increased at both sides). Ch 5, turn.
Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next ch, dc in next dc, ch 2, skip 2 dc, dc in next dc, ch 2, dc in next dc, ch 2, skip 2 dc, a foundation dc in next dc (3 sps); make 2 more foundation dc, and 1 dc in the usual way. Ch 5, turn. Hereafter follow chart until the 18th row is completed; ch 159. Fasten off.
Make 8 more points as before, joining the ch-159 with sl st to 3rd st of turning ch-3 on last row of previous point. Then join the chain of 1st point to 3rd st of turning ch on last row of last point, thus forming a circle. Fasten off.
Rounds
Hereafter work is done in rnds instead of rows. Attach thread to 77th ch, counting to the right of 1st point made, ch 3 (to count as dc), dc in each of next 76 ch, dc in next dc, 2 sps, 4 bls, *2 sps, 1 bl. Repeat from * 6 more times, 2 sps, 4 bls, 2 sps, dc in each of next 81 ch. Now repeat design on chart around. Join last dc with sl st to 3rd st of ch-3 first made (9 complete patterns).
Ch 5, * skip 2 dc, dc in next dc, ch 2. Repeat from * until 27 sps are made, make 5 bls, ** 2 sps, 1 bl. Repeat from ** 7 more times, 4 more bls, 28 sps. Now repeat design on chart around. Join last ch-2 with sl st to 3rd st of ch-5 first made. Hereafter, starting with 3rd rnd, follow chart to top, always repeating design the necessary number of times.
