Blouse Back

Foundation

Starting at bottom, ch 152 (to measure about 18 inches).

1st row

Dc in 8th ch from hook, * ch 2, skip 2 ch, sc in each of next 3 ch, ch 2, skip 2 ch, dc in next ch (1 pattern made). Repeat from * across, ending row with ch 1, skip 1 ch, dc in last ch (18 patterns). Ch 1, turn.

2nd row

Sc between first 2 dc, * sc in next dc, sc in ch-3 sp, ch 3, skip 1 sc, dc in next sc, ch 3 sp, sc in next ch-3 sp. Repeat from * across, ending row with 3 sc. Ch 1, turn.

3rd row

* Sc in each of 3 sc, ch 3, dc in next dc, ch 3. Repeat from * across, ending row with 3 sc. Ch 4, turn.

4th row

* Skip 1 sc, dc in next sc, ch 3, sc in ch-3 sp, sc in dc, sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 3. Repeat from * across, ending row with ch 1, dc in last sc. Ch 4, turn.

5th row

Dc in dc, * ch 3, sc in each of 3 sc, ch 3, dc in next dc. Repeat from * across, ending row with ch 1, dc in last sc. Ch 1, turn. The last 4 rows (2nd to 5th rows incl.) constitute the pattern.

Shaping

** Work in pattern, decreasing 1 dc or 1 sc, as the case may be, at both ends of each of next 3 rows. Work 3 rows straight. Repeat from ** until 2 patterns in all are decreased (to dec. work off 2 dc as 1 dc). *** Then continue in pattern, increasing 1 sc, 1 dc or 1 sp, as the case may be, for 3 rows (to inc. 1 sp, make ch 3, dc in same place as last sc. To inc. 1 sc, make 2 sc in same place). Work 3 rows straight. Repeat from *** until 4 patterns in all are increased. Work straight until piece measures 9 inches in all. Then ch 19, turn. Work in pattern across chain and across entire row, ch 19, turn. Hereafter work in pattern as before until sleeve measures 4¼ inches wide. Break off. Attach contrasting color and continue in pattern until sleeve measures 6 inches wide.

Shoulder shaping

To shape shoulders, dec. ½ pattern at both ends of every other row for 12 rows. Then dec. ½ pattern at both ends of each row until 10 patterns remain (to dec. ½ pattern, ch 3, turn, skip ½ pattern and continue across). On next row, continuing with shoulder decreases, work in pattern across next 3 patterns, turn. Hereafter dec. ½ pattern, as before, at both ends of each row until all patterns are worked off. Skip 2 patterns and work over remaining 3 patterns to correspond.

Blouse Right Front

Foundation

Starting at bottom, with main color ch 96 (to measure about 9 inches). Work in lace pattern as for Back, * decreasing 1 dc or 1 sc, as the case may be, at underarm side only on each of next 3 rows. Work 3 rows straight. Repeat from * once more. Work straight until piece measures 3 inches. ** Then inc. 1 dc or 1 sc, as the case may be, on each of next 3 rows at underarm side only. Work 3 rows straight. Repeat from ** until 3 patterns in all are increased. Work straight until piece measures 10½ inches in all, ending at underarm side. Ch 19, turn (thus starting sleeve). Work in pattern across chain and across 1st 8 patterns, turn. Work back and forth over these 10 patterns until sleeve measures 4½ inches wide. Break off. Attach contrasting color at front edge and work in lace pattern across next 5 patterns until piece measures 1¼ inches. Break off. Attach main color and work in pattern for ¾ inch. Break off. Attach contrasting color and work for 1¾ inches. Break off. Attach main color and work for ¾ inch. Break off. Sew inner edges together on wrong side. Attach contrasting color at sleeve edge and work across entire row in pattern until sleeve measures 5 inches wide. Then, starting at front edge, dec. 1 pattern (thus starting neck shaping) and continue across. Hereafter dec. ½ pattern at neck edge every other row until 4 patterns in all are decreased. Work straight until sleeve measures 6 inches wide. To shape shoulder, starting at sleeve edge, dec. 1 pattern, and at end of next row dec. ½ pattern (to dec. 1 pattern, sl st across). Repeat these last 2 rows until 1 pattern remains. Break off.

Blouse Left Front

Left Front

Work as for Right Front, reversing shapings.

Assembly

Sew up underarm and sleeve seams, easing in the extra fullness of Front 1½ inches down from sleeve shaping. Sew up shoulder seams. Work 2 rows of sc closely together all around edges of blouse. Finish sleeves in same way. Sew slide fastener along front edges, leaving 1 inch free at top.

Skirt Back

Foundation

Starting at bottom, ch 248 (to measure about 26 inches). Work in lace pattern as for blouse until piece measures 4 inches. * Then dec. 1 dc or 1 sc, as the case may be, at both ends of each of next 3 rows. Work 10 rows straight. Repeat from * until 22 patterns remain. Work straight until piece measures 22 inches. Then dec. as before, but work only 3 rows straight (instead of 10 rows) until 16 patterns remain. Work straight until piece measures 29 inches. Break off.

Skirt Front

Foundation

Starting at bottom, ch 272 (to measure about 28 inches). Work in pattern as for Back until 25 patterns remain. Work straight until piece measures 22 inches. Then continue as for Back until 19 patterns remain. Work straight until piece measures 29 inches. Break off.

Finishing

Sew up side seams, leaving a 7-inch opening on left side at top. Sew belting to waistline. Sew slide fastener along opening. Work 2 rows of sc around bottom of skirt.
