Pattern instructions

Bag Bottom

Setup

BAG—Bottom... Starting at center, make a chain 4 inches long.

1st rnd

Ist rnd: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, 3 sc in last ch; working along opposite side of starting chain, sc in each remaining ch.

2nd rnd

2nd rnd: 3 sc in next sc, sc in next sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in each sc across to within next 3-sc group, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in each remaining sc.

3rd rnd

3rd rnd: Sc in each sc, making 3 sc in center sc of each 3-sc group at corners.

Continue bottom

Continue working in this manner until piece measures 4 x 8 inches.

Side Piece

1st rnd

SIDE PIECE... Ist rnd: Picking up back loop only, sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc.

2nd to 15th rnds

2nd to 15th rnds incl: Working through both loops, sc in each sc around. Join.

16th rnd

16th rnd: Draw loop on hook out to measure 2 inch, thread over and draw through loop on hook, ch 1 to fasten, insert hook in same place as sl st was made, * thread over and draw loop up to height of last st made, skip next sc, insert hook in next sc, thread over and draw loop up to same height, thread over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 1 to fasten (long group st made), insert hook in same place as last st was made. Repeat from * around (do not ch 1 to fasten on last group st). Join with sl st to top of first loop (back of bag).

17th rnd

17th rnd: Draw loop on hook out to measure 2 inch, thread over and draw through loop on hook, ch 1 to fasten, insert hook in same place as sl st, * thread over and draw loop up to height of st in work, insert hook in top of next long group st, thread over and draw loop up to height of st in work, thread over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 1 to fasten, insert hook in same place as last long st. Repeat from * around. Join as before.

Repeat 17th rnd

Repeat last rnd until piece measures 7 inches from last rnd of sc on side piece. Break off.

Flap

Setup

FLAP... Starting at center, make a chain 3 inches long.

1st row

Ist row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, 3 sc in last ch; working along opposite side of starting chain, make sc in each remaining ch. Ch 1, turn.

2nd row

2nd row: Sc in each sc, increasing 3 sc at rounded end.

3rd row

3rd row: Mark center sc at rounded end, sc in each sc to within 2 sc of center sc, ch 5, skip 5 sc (for buttonhole), sc in each remaining sc. Ch 1, turn.

4th row

4th row: Sc in each sc and in each ch, increasing 3 sc evenly at rounded end.

Repeat 2nd row

Repeat 2nd row until flap measures 5 inches long. Break off.

Attach flap

With a pin mark center back of Bag. Sew Flap in place, being sure center of Flap meets center back. Line Bag and Flap with felt, inserting cardboard at bottom and sides up to 15th rnd. Place a pin one inch from both sides of Flap, mark center front of Bag. Place a pin to correspond with each pin at sides of Flap.

Handle

Setup

HANDLE (Make 2)... Starting at one end, ch 7. Join with sl st to form a ring.

1st rnd

Ist rnd: Sc in each ch around.

2nd rnd

2nd rnd: Sc in each sc around.

Repeat 2nd rnd

Repeat 2nd rnd until piece measures 12 inches long. Break off.

Handle finish

Draw cable cord through Handles and sew in place at markers, forming a pleat on each side. Draw cuff link through Bag to correspond with buttonhole. Trim Bag with remaining beads.
