Top Knot Turban & Bag

HAT: Make a 22" ch. Work 1 sc in 2d st from hook, 1 sc in next st of ch, * 1 dc in each of next 2 sts of ch, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts of ch, repeat from * ch, turn.

Next Row: Ch 2, * 1 dc in each of next 2 sc, 1 sc in each of next 2 dc, repeat from * across row, and 1 dc in each of last 2 sc, ch 1, turn.

Next Row: 1 sc in each of first 2 dc, * 1 dc in each of next 2 sc, 1 sc in each of next 2 dc, repeat from * across row, turn. Repeat last 2 rows for patt. Work even in patt until piece measures 7½" from start. Fasten off.

Finishing: Right side facing. Turn down a 2" hem at top of strip, and sew. Wrong side facing: Sew back seam. Work 1 row sc around bottom of hat. Using 1 yd. of velvet ribbon, and starting at approximately 1" to left of front of hat and 1/2" below top of hat, weave ribbon in and out around hat, going over the first 2 sts, under the next 2, and continuing in that manner around entire hat. Draw ribbon tightly together, tie into bow and knot ends.

BAG: Make a 12" ch. Work in same manner as hat until piece measures 10". Fasten off. Make second piece to match.

Finishing: Hold both pieces together, wrong sides facing, and join by working a row of sc down one side, across bottom, and up other side. Using 2 yds. of ribbon, draw through top of bag approximately 2" down from top (as for hat). Tie ends into bow, and knot ends. Draw together, extending pieces at each end for handles, and knot top of handles together.
