2nd Row—2 dc in same space, sc in 3 ch loop of shell in previous row, * ch 3, 2 dc in same space, sc in next 3 ch loop of next shell, repeat from * across row, ch 3, turn.

Repeat 2nd row until section measures 88 inches, break thread.

Work a row of sc all around working 3 sc in each 3 ch loop, and 1 sc in each sc, break thread. Shell section should measure about 29½ x 88 inches.

LACY BAND. MOTIF. Ch 10, join to form a ring, ch 4, * thread over needle twice, insert in ring, pull through and work off 2 loops twice, repeat from *, thread over and pull through all loops on needle, ** ch 4, * thread over twice, insert in same space, pull through and work off 2 loops twice repeat from * twice, thread over and pull through all loops on needle at one time, (a cluster st) repeat from ** 6 times, ch 4, join.

2nd Row—Sl st into loop, ch 4 and work a cluster st in loop, ch 4, cluster st in same space, * ch 6, sc in next loop, ch 6, work 2 cluster sts with ch 4 between in next loop, repeat from * twice, ch 6, sc in next loop, ch 6, join in top of cluster st.

3rd Row—Sl st to loop, ch 4, * cluster st in loop, ch 5, sl st in top of cluster st for picot, ch 7, sl st in same space for picot, ch 5, sl st in same space for picot, ch 7, sl st in 4th st from hook for picot, ch 3, sc in next loop, ch 7, sl st in 4th st from hook for picot, ch 4, sl st in same space for picot, ch 4 sl st in same space for picot, ch 3, sc in next loop, ch 7, sl st in 4th st from hook for picot, ch 3, repeat from * 3 times, join, break thread.

Join 3rd motif to 2nd motif and 4th motif to 3rd and 1st motif in same manner. Work 160 more motifs having 2 rows of 35 motifs on each side and 2 rows of 15 motifs across lower edge arranging as illustrated. (162 motifs)

With wrong side of band toward you and working on outside of band, attach thread in picot at top corner, * ch 5, sc in next picot, repeat from * to corresponding picot on opposite side, (do not work loops across 2 motifs at top) ch 1, turn and over each loop work 5 sc, break thread.

With wrong side of band toward you and working on inside of band, attach thread in picot at top corner and work same as outer edge of band.

Sew band to center shell section.

RUFFLE FOR FOOT OF SPREAD. Ch 366 (ch should measure about 45 inches) sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in each remaining st, turn.

2nd Row—* Ch 6, skip 1 sc, sc in next sc, repeat from * 9 times, ch 6, sc in next sc, repeat from * across row, turn.

3rd Row—Ch 9, sc in 1st loop and work a 6 ch loop in each loop, turn.

Repeat 3rd row 12 times, turn.

16th Row—Ch 4, cluster st in loop, * ch 6, cluster st in next loop, repeat from * across row, turn.

17th Row—Ch 7, sl st in 4th st from hook for picot, ch 3, sc in loop, ch 7, sl st in 4th st from hook for picot, * ch 4, sl st in same st, repeat from *, ch 3, sc in next loop, repeat from beginning across row, turn.

18th Row—Ch 9, sc in picot, * ch 6, sc in center picot of picot group, ch 6, sc in next picot, repeat from * across row, turn.

19th Row—Ch 4, cluster st in loop, * ch 6, cluster st in next loop, repeat from * across row, ch 9, turn.

Work 15 rows of 6 ch loops, then repeat 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th rows, then repeat last 19 rows, turn.

Next Row—Ch 4, sl st in same space for picot, sc in top of cluster st, * 6 sc over loop, ch 4, sl st in last sc for picot, sc in top of cluster st, repeat from * across row, break thread.

Join thread in 1st sc at top of ruffle and work 2 rows of sc, break thread.

Sew ruffle to lacy band at lower edge.

SIDE RUFFLE. Ch 857, (ch should measure about 3 yds.) and work ruffle same as lower edge ruffle. Work a second ruffle for other side.

Applique flowers if desired. To applique flowers, cut out flowers or motif, trim edges allowing about ½ inch. Slash at intervals, paste in position, turn edges under and hem using "Star" Twist.
