Pattern instructions

Jacket Back

Foundation

With afghan hook chain (ch) 60, pick up and pull a loop through each stitch (st) of ch leaving all loops on hook (60 loops on hook), work back by drawing yarn through 1st loop (post of st), * yarn over hook and draw through 2 loops, repeat from * to end of row (1 complete row).

2nd Row

The loop on hook is 1st st of row, with yarn in back of work, pick up a loop in each of the next 3 sts inserting hook under post of st, all sts are worked in same manner, * place yarn in front of work and pick up a loop in each of the next 3 sts, this is a purled afghan st, with yarn in back of work, draw up a loop in each of the next 4 sts, this is a plain afghan st, repeat from * across row leaving all sts on hook.

3rd Row

Draw yarn through first loop, * yarn over and draw through 2 loops, repeat from * to end of row.

Pattern continue

Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows for pattern. Work even in pattern until work measures 8 inches from beginning.

Underarm shaping

Next Row. Slip (sl) st across 1st 4 posts of sts, work in pattern across row to within the last 4 sts for underarm shaping (52 sts). Work even in pattern until armhole measures 3½ inches from underarm.

Neck divide

Next Row. Work across 15 sts and place on holder to be worked later for right front, slip st across the next 22 posts of sts for back of neck, work across remaining 15 sts for left front. Work even on these sts until armhole measures 7 inches from underarm ending at armhole edge. With a separate piece of yarn ch 4 and attach to front at underarm, work across in pattern on these sts (19 sts on hook). Work even until front measures same as back, sl st in each post of st across row, cut yarn.

Right Front

RIGHT FRONT

Slip sts from holder onto hook, attach yarn at neck edge and work back same as 3rd row. Work even in pattern for 1½ inches ending at neck edge. With a separate piece of yarn ch 23 and attach to front at neck edge, work across ch in pattern. Work even until armhole measures 7 inches ending at armhole edge, ch 4, pull a loop through each st of ch, work across row (42 sts). Work even in pattern until front measures same as back, sl st in each post of st, cut yarn.

Sleeves

SLEEVES

With right side of work toward you, pick up and pull a loop through 42 sts around armhole and work even in pattern having 2 plain afghan sts at each end until sleeve measures 6 inches or length desired.

Cuff decrease

Next Row. With size E hook work 1 sc in each post of sts, join to first sc (42 sts). Next Row. * Work 1 sc in each of the next 5 sc, decrease 1 st in next 2 sts (to decrease: insert hook in next st and draw up a loop, insert hook in next st and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through all loops at one time), repeat from * 5 times (36 sts). Next Row. Work 1 sc in each st. Next Row. * Work 1 sc in each of the next 4 sc, decrease in next 2 sts, repeat from * 5 times (30 sts).

Shell edge

Next Row. * Ch 3, 3 dc in same space, skip 2 sc, 1 sc in next st (shell), repeat from * all around, join, cut yarn (10 shells). Sew side and sleeve seams.

Front Bands

Right front band

With right side of work toward you, attach yarn in corner st of lower edge of right front and work 52 sc up front, ch 1, turn. Next Row. 1 sc in each sc, ch 1, turn. Next Row. 1 sc in 1st sc, * ch 2 for buttonhole, skip 2 sts, 1 sc in each of the next 10 sc, repeat from * 3 times, ch 2, skip 2 sts, sc in last st, ch 1, turn (5 buttonholes). Next Row. 1 sc in each sc, 2 sc in each ch 2 loop, ch 1, turn. Next Row. 1 sc in each sc, cut yarn.

Left front band

With right side of work toward you, attach yarn at shoulder edge of left front and work 59 sc down front, picking up the full st, ch 1, turn. Next Row. 1 sc in each of the next 52 sc, ch 1, turn. Next 3 Rows. 1 sc in each sc, cut yarn at end of last row. With right side of work toward you, attach yarn and work a row of sc across lower edge, cut yarn.

Collar

COLLAR

With right side of work toward you, attach yarn at neck edge of right front and work 63 sc around neck edge leaving last 4 rows free on left front, ch 1, turn. Next 3 Rows. 1 sc in each sc, ch 1 to turn each row. Next Row. 2 sc in 1st sc, 1 sc in each sc across row, ch 1, turn. Next Row. 1 sc in each sc, ch 1, turn. Next Row. 2 sc in 1st sc, 1 sc in each remaining st, ch 1, turn. Next Row. 1 sc in each sc, 2 sc in last sc, cut yarn. With wrong side of work toward you, attach yarn at lower side edge of collar, ch 3, 3 dc in same space, * skip 2 sts, sc in next st, ch 3, 5 dc in same space, repeat from * all around, cut yarn. Sew buttons in position sewing button on collar.

Mittens

MITTENS

With afghan hook ch 28, pick up and pull a loop through each st of chain leaving all loops on hook (28 loops) and work back same as 3rd row of Jacket. Work even in pattern same as sleeve for 2 inches.

Decrease and top

Next 3 Rows. Work in pattern decreasing 4 sts evenly spaced in each row (to decrease: insert hook under post of 2 sts, yarn over and pull through both sts). Next Row. With size E hook, ch 1, 1 sc in each post of sts, cut yarn leaving an end to sew top and side of mitten. Attach yarn at cuff edge, and with size E hook work 30 sc around cuff edge, join to first sc.

BEADING

Next Row. BEADING: Ch 3, * skip 1 sc, 1 short double crochet (s dc) in next st (s dc: yarn over hook, insert in st, pull through, yarn over and pull through all loops at one time), ch 1, repeat from * all around, join in 2nd st of ch (15 meshes). Next Row. Ch 1, 2 sc in each mesh, join. Next Row. Ch 1, 1 sc in each sc, join. Next Row. Work a row of shells same as on sleeve of Jacket, cut yarn. Lace ribbon through beading.
