Advanced Hook No. 7 Filet Strip Bedspread

Frost-like fillet bedspread with ageless all-over pattern worked in strips from chart with edging.

Size
Single size about 76 x 108 inches (5 strips); double size about 91 x 108 inches (6 strips).
Gauge
4 sps make 1 inch; 4 rows make 1 inch. Each strip measures about 14½ inches wide after blocking.

First Strip

Starting

FIRST STRIP... Starting at bottom of chart, ch 179 (12 ch sts to 1 inch).

1st row

Ist row: Dc in 8th ch from hook, dc in next 9 ch—1 sp and 3 bls made; (ch 2, skip 2 ch, dc in next ch) twice—2 sps made; dc in next 15 ch—5 bls made; 1 sp, 3 bls, 22 sps, dc in next 30 ch—10 bls made; 1 sp, 3 bls, 7 sps. Ch 5, turn.

2nd row

2nd row: Dc in next dc, ch 2, dc in next dc—2 sps made over 2 sps; 4 more sps, dc in next 2 ch, dc in next dc—bl made over sp; ch 2, skip 2 dc, dc in next dc—sp made over bl; dc in next 3 dc—bl made; 1 sp, 12 bls, 2 sps, 4 bls, 14 sps, 1 bl, 1 sp, 1 bl, 1 sp, 7 bls, 2 sps, 3 bls. Ch 3, turn.

3rd row

3rd row: Dc in next 3 dc—1 bl made; 3 sps, 4 bls, 3 sps, 1 bl, 12 sps, 4 bls, 3 sps, 2 bls, 2 sps, 9 bls, 3 sps, 1 bl, 9 sps, ch 2, skip 2 ch of turning ch, dc in next ch. Ch 5, turn.

Chart

Now follow chart, starting at 4th row and working to top. Then repeat entire design 14 more times (piece should measure 105 inches). Fasten off.

Assembly

Sew strips together on wrong side with neat over-and-over stitches, being careful to match design.

Edging

1st rnd

EDGING ... Ist rnd: Attach thread to center ch of corner sp on last row of end strip, ch 8, dc in same ch, ch 2, dc in next dc. Continue to make sps around all sides, making dc, ch 5 and dc in center ch at corners. Join last ch-2 with sl st to 3rd st of ch-8.

2nd rnd

2nd rnd: Ch 5, in corner ch make dc, ch 5 and dc; ch 2 and make sps over sps around, working corners as before; join.

3rd rnd

3rd rnd: Ch 5, dc in next dc, ch 2, in corner ch make dc, ch 5 and dc. Ch 2 and make sps over sps around, working corners as before. Join.

4th rnd

4th rnd: Ch 3; (2 dc in next sp, dc in next dc) twice; ch 2, in corner ch make dc, ch 5 and dc. Ch 2, dc in next dc, make 2 bls, * 2 sps, 2 bls. Repeat from * until 212 sps and bls in all are made on this side of spread (including corner sp). Now make 4 sps, ** 2 bls, 2 sps. Repeat from ** along side, finishing corner as before. Work in the same manner along other side of spread, making 4 sps at center of side as before. Work remaining 2 sides to correspond; join.

5th rnd

5th rnd: Sl st in next 6 dc, ch 3, 2 dc in sp, dc in next dc, 2 dc in corner sp, 3 dc in corner ch, 2 dc in corner sp, dc in next dc, 2 dc in sp, ch 3, sl st in next 7 dc, ch 3, 2 dc in sp, dc in next dc, 2 dc in sp, ch 3, sl st in next 7 dc and continue thus around, making bls over sps and sl sts over bls. Join and fasten off.
