With Color 1 ch 8. Join to first ch with a sl st to form a ring.

Ch 1, 12 sc in ring, join with a sl st, turn.

Insert hook in first sc, yo finger 2 times, insert hook under the 2 loops and draw through sc, dropping loops off finger, yo and through the 3 loops on hook (one double loop st). Make a double loop st in each sc around, join with a sl st, draw Color 2 through loop on hook, break Color 1, turn.

With Color 2 and loops facing you, work 2 sc in each sc around (24 sts), join with a sl st.

Working around, ch 1, * sc in sc, skip 1 st, in next st make (dc, ch 1) 2 times, then 1 dc (3 dc shell), skip 1 st, repeat from * around, join with a sl st, break yarn and fasten.

With Color 3 make a loop on hook, * sc in center dc of any shell, ch 1, 3 dc shell in next sc, ch 1, repeat from * around, join with a sl st.

Sl st to center dc of next shell, ch 3 to count as 1 dc, * in next sc make (dc, ch 1) 4 times, then 1 dc (5 dc shell), dc in center dc of next shell, repeat from * around, join with a sl st, break yarn and fasten. Make 138 Motifs.

With Color 4 make a loop on hook, * sc in center dc of shell, ch 5, sc in same st (a corner loop), ch 5, in same st as corner loop make (yo, draw up a ½ inch loop) 4 times, yo and draw through all loops on hook, ch 1 to fasten (one cluster), sc in next dc between shells, ch 5, cluster in same dc, repeat from * around, join with a sl st, break yarn and fasten.

With Color 4 make a loop on hook. Sc in center dc of any shell of Second Motif, ch 2, sc in any corner loop of First Motif, ch 2, 1 sc in same st of Second Motif (corner joining), * ch 2, sc in next ch 5 loop of First Motif, ch 2, cluster in same st of Second Motif *, sc in dc between shells of Second Motif, repeat from * to * once more, sc in next center dc of shell, join corner as before, then complete round as for First Motif.

Join in same manner as Second Motif, working in sc of previous joinings where 3 corners meet. Continue to join motifs in this manner, following chart below for placement of motifs.

With Color 2 work around entire Afghan as follows: Attach yarn to a corner loop, * ch 5, cluster in same st, 1 sc in next ch 5 space, repeat from * around, working 1 cluster in each corner, ch 5 space or joining around. Break yarn and fasten.

Block Afghan lightly, pressing down loops.
