Mardi Gras Afghan Pattern

Always work over unused color in order to conceal it.

Starting at center with Paddy Green, ch 4.

Make 23 dc in 4th ch from hook. Join to top of ch-4.

Ch 5, dtr in same place as sl st, ch 5, sl st in same place (corner), * sc in next dc, skip next dc, 5 dc in next dc, skip next dc, sc in next dc; in next dc make sl st, ch 5, dtr, ch 5 and sl st (another corner). Repeat from * around. Join and break off.

Attach White to any dtr, sc in same place (corner); * in next sc make tr and 4 dc, sc in back loop of center dc of next group, in next sc make 4 dc and tr, sc in next dtr (corner). Repeat from * around. Join. Drop White.

Draw a loop of Bittersweet through loop on hook and, working over White, ch 3, make 4 dc in same place as sl st holding back on hook the last loop of last dc; drop Bittersweet and draw White through 2 loops on hook, thus changing color (always change color in this manner) (corner); * working over unused color, make dc in each st across to within sc of next corner changing color on last dc, 5 dc in corner sc, changing color on last dc. Repeat from * around, changing color on last dc, join to top of ch-3.

Ch 3, dc in next dc, * 5 dc in center dc of corner, dc in next 3 dc changing color on last dc, dc in each dc to within last White dc changing color on last dc, dc in last White dc and next 2 dc. Repeat from * around, ending with Bittersweet dc in last White dc. Join to top of ch-3.

Ch 3, dc in next 3 dc, * 5 dc in center dc of corner, dc in next 6 dc changing color on last dc, dc in each dc to within last White dc changing color on last dc; dc in next 6 dc. Repeat from * around, ending with 2 Bittersweet dc. Join and break off.

Make 10 rows of 14 motifs. Sew motifs neatly together with matching colors.

Attach White to center dc at any corner, 3 sc in same place, sc closely around keeping work flat and making 3 sc in center dc at each corner. Join.

Sl st to center sc at corner, ch 3, insert hook in same place as sl st, draw loop through to height of ch-3, (yarn over and insert hook in same place, draw loop through) twice; yarn over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 1 to fasten (puff st made); in same place make dc and puff st, * dc in next sc, puff st in next sc. Repeat from * around, making puff st, dc and puff st in center sc at corners. Join.

Sl st to center dc at corner, ch 3, in corner dc make puff st, dc and puff st; * dc over next puff st, puff st over next dc. Repeat from * around. Join and break off.

Attach Bittersweet and work a row of sc around, making 3 sc at corners. Join and break off.
