Block
BLOCK... Starting at center, ch 10, join with sl st to form ring.
Ist rnd: Ch 3 (to count as dc), make a pc st in ring—to make a pc st, ch 1, make 5 dc in ring, drop loop from hook, insert hook in ch-1 preceding 5 dc and draw dropped loop through; make dc in ring. Repeat from * until 8th pc st is completed. Join with sl st to 3rd st of starting ch.
2nd rnd: Ch 3, make 2 dc in same place as sl st, holding back on hook the last loop of each dc; thread over and draw through all loops on hook (a cluster made). Ch 3, 3 dc in same place as last cluster was made, holding back on hook the last loop of each dc; thread over and draw through all loops on hook (another cluster made). * Ch 2, skip next pc st, 3 dc in next dc, ch 2, skip next pc st. In next dc make 2 clusters with ch-3 between. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 2, sl st in tip of 1st cluster made.
3rd rnd: Sl st in next sp, ch 3 and complete a cluster in sp as before, ch 3, cluster in same place as last cluster was made. * Ch 2, 2 dc in next sp, dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next sp, ch 2. In next sp between clusters make 2 clusters with ch-3 between. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 2 and join as before.
4th rnd: Sl st in sp, ch 3 and complete cluster in sp as before, ch 3, cluster in same sp, * ch 2, 2 dc in next sp, dc in next 7 dc, 2 dc in next sp, ch 2, in next sp between clusters make 2 clusters with ch-3 between. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 2, join.
5th rnd: Sl st in sp, ch 3 and complete a cluster as before, ch 3, cluster in same sp, * ch 2, 2 dc in next sp, dc in next 5 dc, pc st in next dc, dc in next 5 dc, 2 dc in next sp, ch 2. In next sp between clusters make 2 clusters with ch-3 between. Repeat from * around; join as before.
6th rnd: Sl st in sp, ch 3 and complete a cluster in sp as before, ch 3, cluster in same sp. * Ch 2, 2 dc in next sp, dc in next 5 dc, pc st in next dc, dc in next dc, dc in tip of next pc st and in following dc. Pc st in next dc, dc in next 5 dc, 2 dc in next sp, ch 2. In sp between clusters make 2 clusters with ch-3 between. Repeat from * around; join.
7th rnd: Sl st in sp, ch 3 and complete cluster in sp as before, ch 3, cluster in same sp. * Ch 2, 2 dc in next sp, dc in next 5 dc, pc st in next dc. (Dc in next dc, dc in tip of next pc st and in following dc, pc st in next dc) twice; dc in next 5 dc, 2 dc in next sp, ch 2, in next sp between clusters make 2 clusters with ch-3 between. Repeat from * around; join.
8th rnd: Sl st in sp, ch 3 and complete cluster in sp, ch 3, cluster in same sp, * ch 2, 2 dc in next sp, dc in next 5 dc, pc st in next dc. (Dc in next dc, dc in tip of next pc st and in following dc, pc st in next dc) 3 times; dc in next 5 dc, 2 dc in next sp, ch 2. In next sp between clusters make 2 clusters with ch-3 between. Repeat from * around; join.
9th rnd: Sl st in next sp, ch 3 and complete cluster in sp, ch 3, cluster in same sp, * ch 2, 2 dc in next sp, dc in next 5 dc, pc st in next dc. (Dc in next dc, dc in tip of next pc st and in following dc, pc st in next dc) 4 times; dc in next 5 dc, 2 dc in next sp, ch 2. In sp between clusters make 2 clusters with ch-3 between. Repeat from * around; join. Fasten off. This completes one block.
Make necessary number of blocks and sew together neatly with over-and-over stitches on wrong side.
Fringe
FRINGE... Work a row of ch-2 sps (ch 2 and dc) along 2 long sides and 1 short side.
Then make fringe in each sp along these 3 sides, as follows: Cut 8 strands, each 12 inches long. Double these strands, forming a loop. Pull loop through a sp, then draw loose ends through loop. Pull tight. Trim fringe evenly to 4 inches. Block bedspread to measurements given.
