The Eagle Afghan Pattern
A white afghan-stitch panel afghan with cross-stitched eagle and border embroidery, outline-stitch sprays, and a single crochet edge.
Materials
- 14 inch Afghan Hook · J OR ANY SIZE HOOK WHICH WILL RESULT IN STITCH GAUGE BELOW
- Plastic Crochet Hook · Size J
Pattern instructions
Center Panel
With White ch 99 and work 98 afghan sts (afghan st: pick up 2nd st from hook, pull loop through, leaving all loops on hook pick up and pull a loop through each remaining st of ch. Work back by drawing yarn through 1st loop, then work off all remaining loops 2 at a time, do not turn.
Skip the 1st vertical bar of st, then pull a loop through each vertical bar to within last vertical bar, insert hook under last vertical bar and edge of work, do not turn, yarn over and pull through 1st loop, then work off all remaining loops 2 at a time. Repeat 2nd row until there are 200 rows, cut yarn.
Side Panels
With White ch 30 and work 29 afghan sts same as center panel for 200 rows, cut yarn.
Finishing
Block each panel to size. Embroider eagle in cross st following chart. Sew side panels in position matching rows. Embroider borders following chart. Mark position of arrows and stems of sprays with basting sts in a contrasting colored thread. Embroider over basting sts in outline st in Antique Gold.
Edge
With White work a row of sc all around afghan working 3 sc in each corner and 1 sc in each st, join, cut yarn.
