Starting at lower edge, ch 36 to measure 5 inches.

Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.

Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

Repeat 2nd row until piece measures 4 inches. Turn.

Ch 37. Attach a second piece of yarn to end of row, ch 35. Break off this second piece.

Resuming work with main yarn, dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each ch and in each sc, dc in each remaining ch across. Ch 3, turn.

Dc in 2nd dc and in each dc across, dc in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn.

Repeat 2nd row until Side measures 4 inches. Ch 3, turn.

* 2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc. Repeat from * across. Ch 3, turn.

Dc in each dc across, dc in top st of turning chain. Ch 3, turn.

Repeat 2nd row, making ch 1 to turn.

Sc in each st across. Break off. Sew Sides to adjacent edges of Back Piece.

Shirr ribbon and sew in place at base of Ruffle.

Attach yarn to lower edge and sc closely across. Ch 4, turn.

* Skip 1 sc, dc in next sc, ch 1. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn.

Sc in each dc and in each sp across. Break off. Using yarn double, make a chain 26 inches long. Lace chain through Beading, leaving 8 inches free on each side for ties. Sew ties securely at corners.

Cut a piece of cardboard 5 inches long and 2 inches wide. Place a 17-inch strand of yarn across edge of cardboard, then wind one strand of yarn 30 times around width of cardboard tightly. Slip from cardboard and tie securely. Wind a single strand 5 times around 2 inch from top. Cut loops at bottom and trim. Sew Tassels to chains.

Starting at center, ch 11.

3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 8 ch, 5 sc in next ch (toe); working along opposite side of starting chain make sc in next 8 ch.

Sc in each sc around, increasing 3 sc across heel and 4 sc across toe — to inc 1 sc, make 2 sc in 1 sc (80 sc on 9th rnd).

Sc in each sc around. Join and break off.

Counting from middle sc of toe, attach yarn in 20th sc, sc in same sc. Working around heel, sc in next 42 sc, 2 dc in next 37 sc.

Make sc in each sc and dc in each dc around.

Sc in each sc across heel, sl st in next dc. Ch 1, turn. Sc in each sc across, sl st in next dc. Break off. Weave double strand of yarn through dc's of top row and draw together. Tie ends securely.

Work as for first ten rnds of Inner Sole. Break off. Trace the outline of the Outer Sole on a piece of cardboard. Cut just inside line. Insert cardboard between soles. Sc closely around edge of soles, working through both thicknesses.

Ch 25, skip 8 sc on side of Bootee, sc in next 27 sc. Ch 4, turn.

Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 2 ch, sc in each sc across back, sc in next 25 ch. Ch 1, turn.

2 sc in first sc, sc in next sc, ch 3, skip 3 sc, sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

Sc in each sc, 3 sc in ch-3 sp, sc in next 3 sc. Ch 1, turn.

Dec 1 sc, sc in each sc across — to dec 1 sc, work off 2 sc as 1 sc. Ch 1, turn.

Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

Repeat 2nd, 3rd and 4th rows. Break off. Fold strap in half lengthwise and sew in place with neat over-and-over stitches. Finish off buttonhole. Sew button in place.

Make Right Bootee same as this, making Strap to fit right foot.

Starting at center, ch 17.

Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, make 5 sc in last ch (tip of mitten), sc in each ch along opposite side of starting chain. Ch 1, turn.

Sc in each sc to within 5-sc group, 2 sc in each of next 5 sc, sc in each remaining sc across. Ch 1, turn.

Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

Sc in each sc, increasing 5 sc evenly across top — to inc 1 sc, make 2 sc in 1 sc. Ch 1, turn.

Repeat 3rd and 4th rows alternately 2 more times.

Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Break off at end of 10th row.

Same as Back of Hand. Sew Palm and Back pieces together.

Attach yarn to bottom and make sc closely around. Join.

Ch 4, * skip 1 sc, dc in next sc, ch 1. Repeat from * around. Join.

Make sc in each dc and each sp around. Join.

Ch 3, * 2 dc in next sc, dc in next sc. Repeat from * around. Join.

Ch 3, dc in each dc around. Join.

Sc in each dc around. Join and break off. Using yarn double, make a chain 12 inches long. Lace through Beading at cuff.

Cut a piece of cardboard 5 inches long and 2 inches wide. Place a 17-inch strand of yarn across edge of cardboard, then wind one strand of yarn 350 times around width of cardboard tightly. Slip from cardboard and tie securely. Wind a single strand 5 times around, 1 inch from top. Cut loops at bottom and trim. Sew a tassel to each end of chain.
