Hand

Foundation

Ch 28 (50, 32), sc in 2nd st from hook, * ch 1, skip 1st st of ch, sc in next st of ch, repeat from * across row, ch 1 to turn all rows.

2nd ROW

1 sc in sc, * ch 1, sc in next sc, repeat from * across row.

Rows 3–5

NEXT 3 ROWS: Repeat 2nd row.

6th ROW

Work in pattern (ch 1, sc in sc) across row inc in 7th (7th, 8th) and 8th (8th, 9th) st (to inc: sc, ch 1, sc in same st).

7th and 8th ROWS

Work even.

9th ROW

Inc in 7th (7th, 8th) and 10th (10th, 11th) sts.

10th and 11th ROWS

Work even.

12th ROW

Work across 7 sc, ch 1, skip 4 (4, 5) sc for thumb, work in pattern across remainder of row.

Rows 13–25

NEXT 13 (14, 15) ROWS: Work even.

26th (27th, 28th) ROW

Dec 1 st at beg of row, work across next 4 (4, 5) sc, dec 1 st, work across remainder of row dec 1 st at end of row.

27th (28th, 29th) ROW

Work even.

28th (29th, 30th) ROW

Dec 1 st at beg of row, work across 2 (2, 3) sc, dec 2 sts, work across remainder of row dec 1 st at end of row.

29th (30th, 31st) ROW

Work even, cut yarn leaving a length long enough to sew seam. Thread length into needle and sew seam.

Thumb

Thumb

Attach yarn in any sc and work in pattern working 1 sc in ch 1 of palm, join and turn each row. Work in pattern until thumb is 1/2 inch less than desired length.

NEXT ROW

Dec every other st, join, cut yarn. Draw sts of thumb tog.

Cuff

Cuff

Join yarn in seam st, work sc, ch 1, sc in same st, * ch 1, sc, ch 1, sc in next st, repeat from * all around, join and turn each round. Work 6 rounds even, cut yarn.

Tie And Pompon

Tie

Work a ch about 18 inches long, work 1 sl st in each st of ch, cut yarn.

Pompons

(Make 2). Wind yarn 35 times over a 3 inch cardboard, slip off cardboard, tie in center, cut both ends and trim into shape. Attach to each end of tie.

Fringe optional

If desired mitten may be finished with fringe. Cut strands into 3 inch lengths. Take 2 strands double in half and loop through each ch 1 space in last row of cuff.
