Starting at long side, with shaded color ch 160 to measure about 14 inches.
7 tr in 4th ch from hook. * skip 3 ch, sl st in next ch, skip 3 ch, 7 tr in next ch. Repeat from * across, ending with sl st in last ch (20 diamonds). Drop shaded color; attach solid color.
Ch 3, (thread over, insert hook in next tr and pull loop through, thread over and draw through 2 loops) 3 times; thread over and draw through all 4 loops on hook, ch 4, sl st in next tr; * (thread over, insert hook in next tr and pull loop through, thread over and draw through 2 loops) 3 times; thread over twice, insert hook in sl st and pull loop through; (thread over and draw through 2 loops) twice; (thread over, insert hook in next tr and pull loop through; thread over and draw through 2 loops) 3 times; thread over and draw through all 8 loops on hook, ch 4, sl st in next tr. Repeat from * across, ending with (thread over, insert hook in next tr and pull loop through; thread over and draw through 2 loops) 3 times; thread over and draw through all loops on hook. Ch 5, turn.
3 tr in 5th ch from hook, * sl st in next sl st, skip 3 ch, 7 tr in next ch. Repeat from * across, ending with skip 3 ch, 3 tr in next ch, tr in turning ch. Drop solid color, pick up shaded color and draw through last loop, turn.
* (Thread over, insert hook in next tr and pull loop through, thread over and draw through 2 loops) 3 times; thread over twice, insert hook in sl st and pull loop through; (thread over, draw through 2 loops) twice; (thread over, insert hook in next tr and pull loop through; thread over and draw through 2 loops) 3 times; thread over, draw through all loops on hook, ch 4, sl st in next tr. Repeat from * across, ending with sl st in turning ch. Ch 1, turn.
* Skip 3 ch, 7 tr in next ch, sl st in next sl st. Repeat from * across, ending with sl st in turning ch. Drop shaded color, pick up solid color and draw through last loop, turn. The last 4 rows (2nd to 5th rows incl.) constitute the pattern. Work in pattern until piece measures 9 inches, ending with 1 row of shaded color. Fasten off.
Attach solid color and work in pattern around all 4 sides for 6 rnds, making 1 additional diamond at each corner on 1st rnd only. Fasten off.
Cover pillow with lining material and sew crocheted piece to top of pillow.
