Pattern instructions

Pillow

Foundation

Starting at center, with shaded color ch 4.

1st rnd

11 dc in 4th ch from hook, join last dc with sl st to 4th st of ch-4.

2nd rnd

Ch 3 (to count as dc), dc in 1st st, 2 dc in each dc around (24 dc).

3rd rnd

Ch 3, * in next dc make a pc st—to make a pc st, ch 1, make 5 dc, drop loop from hook, insert hook in ch-1 and draw dropped loop through—thread over, insert hook in next dc, thread over and draw through 2 loops. Drop shaded color, attach solid color and draw through the 2 loops on hook; working over shaded color to conceal it, make 3 solid color dc in next dc (2 dc increased), completing 3rd dc with shaded color. With shaded color make dc in next dc, concealing unused color as before. Repeat from * around. Join.

4th rnd

Ch 3 and complete a pc st, * dc at tip of next pc st, pc st in next dc, dc in next dc, drop shaded color, attach solid color; 3 dc in next dc (2 dc increased), drop solid color, pick up shaded color; dc in next dc, pc st in next dc. Repeat from * around. Join. Continue in this manner, making 3 dc in center dc of each solid color section and alternating dc's and pc sts across shaded sections until there are 6 pc sts in each section.

Next rnd

Ch 3, * pc st in next dc, dc in next pc st, pc st in next dc, dc in next pc st; drop shaded color, pick up solid color, dc in next 2 dc, 3 dc in next dc, 2 dc in next 2 dc; drop solid color, pick up shaded color; (dc in next pc st, pc st in next dc) 3 times, dc in next pc st. Repeat from * around. Join. Continue in this manner, increasing as before and making 2 additional solid color dc in solid color sections on each rnd until all shaded sts are replaced by solid sts. Break off shaded color and make solid color dc's around, increasing 12 dc on each rnd (be careful not to have increases fall over previous ones) until piece measures about 11 inches in diameter. Do not fasten off but work edging as follows:

Edging

1st rnd

* Ch 10, sc in dc about ½ inch away from where ch-10 started. Repeat from * around.

2nd rnd

Make 12 dc in each loop around. Fasten off.
