Strips (Make 2). Starting at "A" on chart, with Brown ch 56 (to measure about 6 inches).

Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each of next 3 ch; then thread over, insert hook in next ch and draw loop through, thread over and draw through 2 loops, drop Brown, attach Ecru and draw through remaining 2 loops (6 Brown dc made, counting turning ch-3 as 1 dc). With Ecru, dc in each of next 18 ch, carrying Brown concealed in dc's and completing last dc with Brown; then, concealing Ecru in dc's, with Brown make dc in each of next 18 ch, completing last dc with Ecru; with Ecru, dc in each of next 6 ch, concealing Brown as before and completing last dc with Brown; with Brown dc in each of next 6 ch, concealing Ecru and completing last dc with Ecru. Ch 3, turn.

Make dc in each dc across, making 12 Ecru dc, 12 Brown dc, 12 Ecru dc, 6 Brown dc, 12 Ecru dc. (Be sure always to complete last dc of each color-group with contrasting color.) With Brown, ch 3, turn. Hereafter follow chart from "B" to complete one strip. (Strip should measure about 16½ inches. If not, add a few more patterns.)

Cut a piece of fabric 9½ x 16½ inches, and 2 pieces, each 3½ x 16½ inches. Sew a ¼-inch hem on both long edges of large piece, and on one long edge of each small piece. Sew a crocheted strip to each hemmed edge of large piece. Then sew the hemmed edge of one small piece to each crocheted strip. Cut a piece of material same size as this entire piece, for back of pillow top. Sew both long sides together on wrong side, allowing ½ inch for seams. Turn piece right side out, and fray both short sides, forming a 2-inch fringe. Sew with over-and-over stitches along base of fringe to prevent further raveling. Insert pillow, and sew both short ends together 1 inch above base of fringe.
