Intermediate Edging

A filet crochet edging worked from a diagram in Star or Gem mercerized crochet cotton sizes 20 to 70, originally published in Star #18, Star Book of 100 Edgings.

Pattern instructions

General Directions

Open Mesh (OM)

When worked on a chain work the first dc in 8th ch from hook * ch 2, skip 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, repeat from *. Succeeding rows ch 5 to turn and dc in dc, ch 2, dc in next dc, repeat from *.

Solid Mesh (SM)

Four double crochet form 1 solid mesh and 3 dc are required for each additional solid mesh. Open mesh and solid mesh are used in Filet Crochet. To increase one mesh at end of row, ch 2, thread over 3 times, insert in base of last dc made, and work off all loops 2 at a time. To increase a mesh at beginning of row, ch 8 to turn and dc in 1st dc.

Edging

Foundation

Ch 18, dc in 4th st from hook, 1 dc in each of the next 3 chs, * ch 2, skip 2 chs, dc in next ch, repeat from * 3 times, ch 5, turn.

2nd Row

Dc in dc, 2 dc in mesh, dc in dc, ch 2, dc in next dc, ch 2, 1 dc in each of the next 4 sts, ch 7, turn.

3rd Row

1 dc in 4th st from hook, 1 dc in each of the next 2 chs, dc in dc, ch 2, skip 2 dc, dc in next dc, 1 open mesh, 1 solid mesh, 2 open meshes, ch 5, turn and continue up and down according to diagram.
