FIRST MOTIF ... Ist rnd: * Ch 12, join with sl st to Ist ch of ch-12,6scinch-12. Repeat from * 3 more times. Drop loop from hook and, holding work so that alls c's are right side up, insert hook in ch preceding Ist s c made and draw dropped loop through (thus forming a large ring, with alls c's at center).

2nd rnd: * Incentersp between s c-groups makesc,ch3andsc;/7scinnext ch-12. Repeat from * around; join to Ist sc made.

3rdrnd: Slstinch-3 loop, ch 4 (to count as tr); make 2 tr in same loop, retaining on hook last loop of each tr; thread over and draw through allloops (a tr-cluster made). * Ch 3 more; make 3 trin same ch-3 loop, retaining on hook last loop of each tr, and complete cluster; ch 3, another cluster in same loop. Ch 5, 3-tr cluster in next ch-3 loop. Repeat from * around, joining last ch-5 to tip of Ist cluster.

4th rnd: Ch 3 (to count asd c),*é6dcinnext ch-3 sp; in tip of next cluster make dc, ch Sanddc;é6dcinnext ch-3 sp, dcintip of next cluster, ch 4,dcintip of next cluster. Repeat from * around, joining last ch-4 to top of ch-3.

5th rnd: Sl stinnextdc, ch3(to count as dc), dcinnext 5dc,*ch3,skip1ldc,incornerch-3 make 3-tr cluster, ch 3 and another 3-tr cluster. Ch 3, skip 1dc,dcinnext6dc, ch 5, skip ch-4 and Ist dc of next d c-group, dcinnext 6 dc. Repeat from * around, joining last ch-5 to top of ch-3.

6th rnd: Slstinnextdc,ch3,dcinnext 3dc;*ch3, 3-dc cluster in next ch-3 so— to make 3-d c cluster, make 3 dc, retaining on hook last loop of each st; thread over and complete as for previous clusters. Ch 3, in corner ch-3 make 3-dc cluster, ch 3 anda 3-dc cluster. Ch 3, 3-dc cluster innext ch-3, ch 3, skip 1dc, dcinnext 4dc,ch3,dcin3rdst of ch-5, ch3, skip 1dc of next group, dcinnext 4d c. Repeat from * around, joining last ch-3 to Ist ch-3.

7thrnd: Slstinnextdc,ch3,dcinnextdc;*(ch3,in next so make a 3-dc cluster) twice. Ch 3, in corner ch-3 sp make a 3-dc cluster, ch 3 and another 3-d c cluster. (Ch 3, 3-dc cluster in next sp) twice; ch 3, skio 1d c of 4-d Cc group, dcinnext 2dc,ch4, skip 1dc andthe ch-3 below, dcinnextdc,ch4, skip ch-3 and|ldc,dcinnext 2 dc. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 4; join.

8thrnd: Ch3,dcinnextdc,*(2dcinsp,dcintip of cluster) 3 times; in cornersp make 3dc,ch3and3dc.D cincluster;(2dcinsp,dcincluster) twice;2dcinsp,dc innext2dc,4dcinch-4sp,dcindc,4dcinch-4sp,dc in2dc. Repeat from * around, ending with 4d c; join.

9th rnd: *Ch5, skip 3dc,scinnextdc,ch5, skip 2dc,scin next dc,ch5,skip 3dc,scinnextdc.Ch5,incorner sp makesc,ch4andsc.Nowcontinue making ch-5 loops along all sides, skipping 2 dc foroneloop and 3 dc for the next loop alternately, and makingsc,ch4andscin each corner sp. Fasten off. This completes one motif.

SECOND MOTIF... Work Ist 8rnds as for first motif. 9th rnd: Work as for Ist motif tosc, ch-4 and sc, inclusive, of Ist corner. Thench 5, skip 2dc,scinnextdc,ch2,slstin center ch of 2nd loop following corner on Ist motif, ch 2, skip 3d conmotif inwork,scinnext dc. Continue joining loops as before until 9 loops are joined. Complete rnd as for Ist motif (no more joinings).

Make 15 x 20 motifs, joining each motif to adjacent motifs, as second was joined to first. Block to measure 54 x 72 inches.
