Irish Crochet Tablecloth
Irish crochet motif tablecloth in Star or Gem Mercerized Crochet Cotton size 20 or 30. Each motif measures about 5 inches. 8—300 yard balls will make a luncheon cloth 9 x 9 motifs. Originally published in Star #11, Bedspreads and Tablecloths.

First Motif
Ch 15, join to forma ring, ch], work 23 sc inring, join.
2nd Row. * Ch5, slstin 4th st for picot, repeat from * twice, ch13,slstin 2nd chto form ring, without turning work ch]1,work2sc,1l5dc,2scintoring, *ch5,slstin 4th st for picot, sl stin straight side of opposite picot, repeat from * twice, chl,2scin2scofring,*ch5,slstin4th st for picot, repeat from * twice, ch13, slstin 2nd ch to form ring, without turning work ch 1, workintoring2sc,3dc, jointo 12thdc of first ring witha slst, 12 dc, 2scinring, * ch5slstin 4th st for picot, sl st in straight side of opposite picot, repeat from * twice, 2scin2scofring and repeat 2nd ring 10 times, joining last ring at 3rd and 12thd cto form circle, break thread.
3rd Row. Join thread between rings, *1scineach of the first 2 free dc of ring, |sdcinnextst,]dcinnextst,3dc innext st,]dcinnext st,]sdcinnextst,2scinlast 2 free dc of ring, repeat from * all around.
4th Row. Sl st to first dc of next ring, ch8, skip 3dc,scin next st,*ch8,scin first dc of next ring, ch 8, skip 3dc,sc innext dc, repeat from * all around, ch 8 and join row.
5th Row. SI st to center of loop, *ch8,scinnextloop, repeat from * all around.
6th Row. SI st to center of loop, ch 8,scinnext loop, ch 8,scinnext loop, ch], turnand work 9 sc over loop just made, ch 2, turn, |dcineach of the 7 centersc,ch2, slst inlast sc, repeat from * all around.
7th Row. Ch7,scinloop,ch7,scinfirst dc of next petal, ch7,scincenter of dc of petal, ch7,scinlast dc of petal, repeat from beginning all around. Only one motif is completed.
Second Motif
Second Motif, work first six rows.
7th Row. Ch7,scinloop,ch7,scinfirst dc of petal, ch 3, sl st in corresponding loop of first motif ch 3,s cin center dcof 2nd motif, ch 3, slstinnextloop of first motif, ch 3, s cinlast dc of second motif and finish row same as in first motif.
Third Motif
Third Motif is joined in the same manner, leaving one free petal of Ist motif between joinings.
Fourth Motif
Fourth Motif is joined to 3rd and Ist motif leaving one free petal between joinings which forms an open square for which the following small motif is made.
Small Motif
Ist Row. Ch 15, join to form aring, chl and work 23 scin ring.
2nd Row. * Ch5,slstin 4th st from needle for picot, repeat from * 3 times ch], join to first loop of petal, * ch 5, sl st in 4th st from needle for picot, sl st in straight side of opposite picot, repeat from * 3 times, ch1, 2 sc inring, repeat from beginning once joining to next loop of petal, repeat between first 2 stars 4 times, ch4, sl stin stitch that joins the two motifs, ch 8, sl st in 4th st from needle for picot, sl st in straight side of picot, repeat between 2nd group of stars 3 times. Ch1,2scinring andrepeat from beginning 3 times.
