Motif tablecloth in Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Big Ball Best Six Cord Mercerized Crochet size 20. Motif measures 4½ inches from side to side and 5 inches point to point. First Motif
FIRST MOTIF... Starting at center, ch 7, join with sl st.
1st rnd: Ch 3, 2 dc in ring; (ch 2, 3 dc in ring) 5 times; ch 2, sl st in 3rd st of ch-3 first made.
2nd rnd: Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, *ch 3, dc in next sp, ch 3, dc in next 3 dc. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 3, sl st in 3rd st of ch-3 first made.
3rd rnd: Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, *(ch 3, dc in next sp) twice; ch 3, dc in next 3 dc. Repeat from * around; join.
4th rnd: Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, *(ch 3, dc in next sp) 3 times; ch 3, dc in next 3 dc. Repeat from * around; join.
5th rnd: Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, *3 dc in next sp; (ch 3, dc in next sp) twice, ch 3, 3 dc in next sp, dc in next 3 dc. Repeat from * around; join.
6th rnd: Ch 3, dc in next 5 dc, *2 dc in next sp, ch 3, dc in next sp, ch 3, 2 dc in next sp, dc in next 9 dc. Repeat from * around; join.
7th rnd: Ch 3, dc in next 7 dc, *2 dc in next sp, ch 5, 2 dc in next sp, dc in next 13 dc. Repeat from * around; join.
8th rnd: Ch 3; make dc in each dc around, having 3 dc, ch 3 and 3 dc in each ch-5 sp. Join.
9th rnd: Ch 5 (to count as dc and ch-2), then (skip 2 dc, dc in next dc, ch 2) 4 times. * In corner sp make 3 dc with ch-2 between; ch 2, skip 1 dc, dc in next dc, ch 2, skip 2 dc, dc in next dc (a ch-2 sp). Make 6 more ch-2 sps, ch 2. Repeat from * around, joining last ch-2 to 3rd st of ch-5.
10th rnd: Sl st in sp, sc in same sp, *ch 6, skip next 2 dc; in next dc make dc, ch 3 and dc. Ch 5, skip 1 dc, sc in next dc, ch 4. In next dc make dc, ch 3 and dc; ch 4, sc in next dc, ch 5, skip 1 dc. In next dc make dc, ch 3 and dc; ch 6, skip 2 dc, sc in next sp. Repeat from * around. Fasten off. This completes one motif.
Second Motif
SECOND MOTIF ... Work 1st 9 rnds as for first motif.
10th rnd: Sl st in sp, sc in same sp, ch 6, skip next 2 dc; in next dc make dc, ch 3 and dc. Ch 5, skip 1 dc, sc in next dc, ch 4, dc in next dc, ch 1, sc in corresponding ch-3 sp at a point of first motif. Ch 1, dc in same place on second motif as last dc was made; ch 4, sc in next dc, ch 5, skip 1 dc, dc in next dc, ch 1, sc in corresponding sp on first motif, ch 1, dc in same place as last dc was made on second motif. Ch 6, skip 2 dc, sc in next sp, ch 6, skip 2 dc, dc in next dc, ch 1, sl st in corresponding sp on first motif. Ch 1, dc back in same place on second motif as last dc was made, ch 5, skip 1 dc, sc in next dc, ch 4, dc in next dc, ch 1, sc in corresponding ch-3 sp at next point of first motif, ch 1, dc in same place on second motif as last dc was made; complete rnd as for first motif (no more joinings).
Make necessary number of motifs (see diagrams), joining adjacent sides as second motif was joined to first (whenever 3 motifs meet, join corner of third motif with an sc to corner joining of adjacent 2 motifs).
