Ladies Mittens Pattern #617 & #623
Ladies crochet mittens size medium with thumb gusset; No. 617 sequin-trimmed and No. 623 two-color green and tan. Originally published in Doreen Knitting #96/#99.

Pattern instructions
No 617 Right Mitten Palm
Starting at the outer edge. Using the sport yarn make a chain of 48 sts.
Make 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook; 1 sc in each of the remaining chain sts (47 sts). Ch 1, turn.
Make 1 sc in each st across row, placing 2 sc in last st, (an increase); mark this as the tip of mitten. Ch 1, turn.
Make 2 sc in first st; 1 sc in each st to end of row. Repeat row 2 and 3, twice more.
Repeat row 2.
Work 1 sc in each stitch across row.
Make 1 sc in each of the next 30 sts; chain 16 sts for thumb; 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook; 1 sc in each of the remaining 14 chain sts; continuing towards the cuff, make 1 sc in next 24 sts. Ch 1, turn.
Make 1 sc in next 39 sts; 1 sc in each of the thumb foundation chain sts; 1 sc in next 28 sts; make a decrease on the last 2 sts as follows: pull up a loop in next 2 sts, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops. Ch 1, turn.
Make a decrease on the first 2 sts; 1 sc in each stitch across row, (going around thumb). Ch 1, turn.
Make 1 sc in each st across row, to within last 2 sts; make a decrease on last 2 sts. Ch 1, turn.
Make a decrease on the first 2 sts; 1 sc in each st to end of row.
Make 1 sc in next 39 sts; decrease a stitch, (this is on the thumb); 1 sc to within last 2 sts; make a decrease on these last 2 sts. Ch 1, turn.
Decrease 1 st at the beginning of the row; work 1 sc in each stitch to end of row.
Repeat row 18.
Make 1 sc in next 24 sts; skip the next 28 sts for the thumb; 1 sc in each stitch to end of row. Ch 1, turn.
Make 1 sc in each stitch across row. Break yarn.
No 617 Right Mitten Back
Starting at the outer edge. Make a chain of 48 sts and work first 12 rows as on palm.
Work even, do not make the chain for thumb.
Work in sc, decrease 1 stitch at the tip of mitten on every row.
Make 1 sc in each stitch, across row. Break yarn.
No 617 Finishing
Pin the two pieces together. Sc together up side, across tip and down 2nd side. Break yarn. Embroider a sequin design on back of hand. Sew one row of sequins around edge as in illustration.
As there is no right or wrong side of crocheting, place the thumb as to form a left mitten when pinning pieces together.
No 623 Ladies Mittens
Follow directions as in pattern #617 using the green yarn for the palm. The tan yarn for the back of mitten. In finishing the mitten sc together with the green yarn. Embroider a design on the back of mittens as in illustration.
