FIRST MOTIF... Starting at center, ch 8, join with sl st. Ist rnd: Ch5, (trinring, ch 1) 15 times. Join to 4th ch of ch-5.

2nd rnd: Slstinnext sp, ch 7; (trinnext ch-1sp, ch 3) 15 times. Jointo 4th ch of ch-7.

3rd rnd: Scinnext sp, ch4, 3 trinsame sp, holding back the last loop of each tr on hook; thread over and draw through allloops onhook, ch 1 to fasten (a cluster). * Ch 4, 4 trin next sp, holding back the last loop of each tron hook; finish as for a cluster. Repeat from * around. Joinlast ch-4 to tip of first cluster.

4thrnd: Ché,*scinnextsp,ch 3, dcintip of next cluster, ch 3. Repeat from * around; joinlast ch-3 to 3rd ch of ch-6.

5thrnd: Ch10, *dcinnext dc, ch 7. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-7 to 3rd chof ch-10.

6th rnd: Ch6, trinsame place as sl st, * 7 dc innext ch-7 sp, innext dcmaketr, ch2 and tr. Repeat from * around; sl stin 4th chof ch-6.

7thrnd: Sl stinnext sp, ch6, dcinsame sp, * ch3,scin4thdc of 7-dc group, ch 3. Innext ch-2 sp make dc,ch3anddc. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-3 with sl st to 3rd ch of ch-6.

8th rnd: Slstinnext sp, ch5;insame place as sl st make dc,ch2,dc,ch2anddc.*Ch3,scinnextsc,ch3.In next so between 2 dc make(dc,ch 2) 3times anddc. Repeat from * around. Joinlast ch-3 to 3rd chof ch-5. Fasten off.

SECOND MOTIF... Work first 7 rnds as for first motif. 8th rnd: Slstinnext sp, ch5, dcinsame place as sl st, ch], sl stin corresponding sp of first motif, ch 1, dc back in same place aslast dc onsecond motif. Ch2,dcinsame place, ch3,scinnextsc,ch3.lnnext ch-3 sp between 2dc makedc,ch2anddc. Ch1landjoin this point to corresponding point of first motif as before, and complete as for 8th rnd of first motif.

Make 13 x17 motifs, joining to adjacent motifs as second motif was joined to first, leaving 2 points free on each motif between joinings.

FILL-IN LACE... Starting at center ch 10, join. Ist rnd: Ch 5, (trinring, ch 1) 15 times. Join to 4th ch of ch-5.

2nd rnd: Scinnext sp, ch 7, remove hook, insert it in center sp of any free point, and draw dropped loop through. * Ch 7, skip 1sp onring, sc in next sp, ch 7, remove hook, insert it in center sp of next free point and draw dropped loop through; repeat from * around, ending with ch-7, sl stins c at base of Ist ch-7. Fasten off. Fillin all other sps in the same way.

Block to measure 60 x 8O inches.
