1 sc in each of the next 6 (10, 12) sc, drop Green, attach Yellow (when changing colors always complete last half of last st with next color), 1 sc in each remaining sc.

Repeat last 2 rows 2 (4, 5) times, always picking up attached thread on all repeat rows.

With Black work a row of sc around each mat and potholder working 3 sc in each corner. On potholder only work a sl st in each sc, join, cut thread. With Black cover a bone ring with sc and sew to potholder as illustrated.
Back Section For Hot Plate Mats
With Yellow ch 54 (70), sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in each remaining st of ch, ch 1 to turn all rows.
1 sc in each sc. Work 48 (62) rows even, cut thread.
With top section toward you using Black, crochet both sections of each mat together with a row of sl sts picking up the back loop of top section and front loop of back section, cut thread.
