A round shadow filet crochet doily about 17½ inches in diameter, worked from a chart with spaces, blocks, and shadow spaces in size 30 Cordichet. Originally published in Royal Society #3, Laces and Doilies.

Doily
Starting at bottom of chart, ch 59.
Tr in 11th ch from hook, (ch 3, sk 3 ch, tr in next ch) 12 times (13 sps in all). Ch 22, turn.
Tr in 11th ch from hook, (ch 3, sk 3 ch, tr in next ch) twice; ch 3, tr in next tr, (3 tr in next sp, tr in next tr) 12 times; 3 tr in next sp, tr in 7th st of turning ch (13 bls over 13 sps made). Ch 7, tr in same place as last tr, (ch 7, turn, tr in 4th st of previous ch) 3 times (4 sps increased at both ends). Ch 14, turn.
Tr in 11th ch from hook, ch 3, tr in top of next tr, make 4 bls, tr in 52 tr (13 bls over 13 bls made); make 4 more bls, ch 7, tr in same place as last tr, ch 7, turn, tr in 4th st of previous ch (2 sps increased at both ends). Ch 10, turn.
Tr in top of next tr, make 6 bls, (ch 1, sk 1 tr, tr in next tr) 26 times (13 shadow sps over 13 bls made); 6 bls, ch 7, tr in same place as last tr (1 sp increased at both ends). Turn, sl st in 4 ch. Ch 10.
Tr in same place as last sl st, make 3 bls, 4 shadow sps, (ch 1, tr in next tr) 26 times (13 shadow sps over 13 shadow sps made); make 4 more shadow sps, 3 bls, ch 7, tr in same place as last tr (1 sp increased at both ends). Turn, sl st in 4 ch. Ch 10.
Tr in same place as last sl st, 2 bls, 12 shadow sps, (tr in next sp, tr in next tr) twice (bl over shadow sp made); 12 shadow sps, 2 bls, ch 7, tr in same place as last tr. Turn, sl st in 4 ch. Ch 10.
Follow chart across.
Inc 1 sp, make 2 bls, 2 shadow sps, 2 bls, (ch 3, sk 3 tr, tr in next tr) 5 times (5 sps over 5 bls made); 2 bls, 2 shadow sps, 3 bls, 2 shadow sps, 2 bls, 5 sps, 2 bls, 2 shadow sps, 2 bls, inc 1 bl.
Starting with 9th row, follow chart to top—when not increasing, ch 7 to turn. To work other half of doily, reverse chart, omit last row and work back until there are 41 rows complete.
Sl st in 3 ch, sl st in tr, ch 7 and follow chart across, do not work over last sp (1 sp decreased at both ends). Ch 7, turn. Now follow chart back to 1st row. Do not fasten off, but work a row of sc closely around edge, keeping work flat. Fasten off.
Starch lightly and block.
