Yellow Picture Hat and Bag Pattern

Pattern instructions
Hat
Ch 2, 8 sc in 2nd st from hook, do not join or turn this or following rounds. Place a marker at beginning of each round.
2 sc in each sc.
* 1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, repeat from * all around.
* 1 sc in each of the next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, repeat from * all around.
Working in sc, increase in every 4th st.
Increase in every 5th st. Continue working in same manner until there are 7 sts between increasing points.
Increase 4 sts evenly spaced.
Work even in sc, join last round with sl st.
Ch 3, dc in same space, 2 dc in each remaining sc, join in 3rd st of ch.
1 dc in each dc, join each round, cut yarn.
Braid
Cut 12—1 1/2 yd. lengths of yarn, tie together about 2 inches from one end for tassel. Divide yarn into 3 strands and braid. Tie braid about 3 inches from free end. Trim tassels, block hat and place braid in position and tie.
Bag Bottom
Ch 13, 3 sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in each of the next 10 sts of ch, 3 sc in last st, working on opposite side of starting ch work 1 sc in each st. Do not join or turn rounds.
* 3 sc in next sc (corner), 1 sc in next sc, 3 sc in next sc (corner), 1 sc in each of the next 10 sc, 3 sc in next sc (corner), 1 sc in next sc, 3 sc in next sc (corner), 1 sc in each of the next 10 sc.
Work 1 sc in each sc working 3 sc in centers at each of the 4 corners. Repeat the last round twice, join, cut yarn.
Bag Upper Section
Ch 58, sc in 1st st of ch to join (be careful not to twist work), 1 sc in each remaining st of ch. Do not join or turn rounds. Work 1 round even in sc.
3 sc in next sc (corner), 1 sc in each of the next 9 sc, 3 sc in next sc (corner), 1 sc in each of the next 18 sc, 3 sc in next sc (corner), 1 sc in each of the next 9 sc, 3 sc in next sc (corner), 1 sc in each of the next 18 sc. Work 1 round even in sc.
Sc in next sc, 3 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of the next 11 sc, 3 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of the next 20 sc, 3 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of the next 11 sc, 3 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of the next 19 sc, sl st in next st.
Ch 3, dc in same space, *1 dc in each of the next 2 sc, 2 dc in next sc, repeat from * 23 times, 1 dc in remaining st, join.
Ch 3 and work 1 dc in each dc, join each round.
BEADING: Ch 5, skip the next dc, trc in next dc, *ch 1, skip next dc, 1 trc in next dc, repeat from * all around, ch 1, join in 4th st of ch.
Sc in same space, 1 sc over next ch 1, *sc in next trc, sc over next ch 1, repeat from * all around, do not join or turn this or following rounds.
1 sc in each sc, join last round, cut yarn.
Finishing
Cut buckram same size as bottom of bag. Cut a strip of buckram 1 1/2 inches wide and long enough to fit around 5th round of upper section of bag. Overcast long strip to piece for bottom, shaping the corners to fit sc section of bag. Place in bag and tack in position.
Cut 6—1 1/2 yd. lengths of yarn, tie together about 1 inch from one end, divide yarn into 3 strands, braid and tie about 1 inch from end. Work another braid in same manner. Lace braid through beading, lacing over 2 trc and under the next 2 trc. Lace other braid in same manner starting from opposite side. Tie and knot free ends together about 2 inches from end and trim.
