Girl's Beret Pattern #5321
Vintage girl's beret worked in split single crochet with shaped crown increases and decreases, tassel, and tassel cap, originally published in Star #53, The New Baby Book.
Materials
- Steel Crochet Hook · No. 4 or No. 5
Pattern instructions
Beret
With 2 strands of thread ch 3, join to form a ring, ch2 and work 6 sdc in ring (sdc thread over; insert needle in st, pull loop through, thread over and pull through all loops on needle). Do not join or turn rounds.
2 sdc in each s dc, mark the beginning of each round.
* 1 sdc in next s dc, 2 sdc in next s dc, repeat from * 5 times.
* 1 sdc in each of the next 2 s dc, 2 sdc in next s dc, repeat from * 5 times.
* 1 sdc in each of the next 3 s dc, 2 sdc in next s dc, repeat from * 5 times. Work 16 more rounds in same manner having more s dc between increasing points in each round. Work 1 round even.
Increase in every 21st s dc, then work 1 round even.
Increase in every 22nd s dc, then work 1 round even.
Increase in every 23rd s dc, then work 3 rounds even.
* 1 sdc in each of the next 22 s dc, decrease 1 st (decrease; insert needle in next st, pull loop through, insert needle in next st, pull loop through, thread over and pull through all loops on needle). Repeat from * 5 times. Work 4 more rounds decreasing 6 times in each round having 1 less st between decreasing points in each round.
Working in back loop of st only work 1 sdc in each s dc.
Working in both loops, 1 sdc in each s dc, break thread.
Tassel
Over a 5 1/2 inch cardboard wind thread 75 times, cut one end and tie through center, leaving a 3 inch thread at top.
Cap For Tassel
With single thread, ch 4, join to form a ring, ch2 and work 8 sdc in ring. Do not join or turn rounds.
* 1 sdc in next s dc, 2 sdc in next s dc, repeat from * 3 times then work 4 rounds of s dc even, work 1 round of sc, break thread.
Draw thread of tassel through cap and attach to hat as illustrated.
